Hello...I’m Mike

I’ve been a teacher in South London schools and a tutor for over the past thirty years.

My specialism was in primary school teaching but my tutoring has been levered more towards teaching Maths and English to GCSE level as well as teaching for primary school SATs and Grammar School entrance exams.

I firmly believe that education provides the best pathway to helping pupils achieve their ambitions.

I always approach lessons with kindness and humour but recognise the fact that pupils need to be “taught” and that this tuition needs to help them achieve their educational goals.

Each lesson usually begins with a reprise of what the pupil “can do” within a particular concept before moving them forward in carefully achievable steps. The aim is to build their confidence so that before they know it, they are swimming in a sea of understanding rather than drowning in it.

Recently, I have also tutored teenagers who have gone on beyond the school system but have wanted to improve their English and Mathematics GCSE grades. I would be happy to teach adults, as well who feel they would benefit from additional support.

Tuition should be enjoyable and I believe pupils should leave each lesson with a better understanding of the concepts taught ...and a smile on their face!
